Abstract
The national effort to promote and develop computer software and services industry in Singapore forms an integral part of this country's economic restructuring programme in the 1980's. Singapore, already a significant economic strength within ASEAN and the Far East, looks forward to becoming one of the world's leading computer software centers. A survey conducted in 1980 showed that the number of computer personnel who are programmers, system analysts, or DP managers was about 850. It is estimated that the number of computer personnel at this level required by 1990 is between 5,800 and 7,800. In this paper, we report various long-term and short-term measures that are taken by the government to promote educational computing in order to meet the requirements of the computer industry in Singapore.
