Abstract

The sodium oxide activity in the coexistence was determined between 823 and 1198 K by relating measured values of the electromotive force of cells of the typeand the Gibbs energy change of the cell reaction which can be written aswhere refers to halide or sulfide anion. The dependence of activity, , on temperature, , isAccordingly, the variation of the sodium vapor pressure of the coexistence, (atm), with temperature and oxygen pressure, (atm), follows the relationExtrapolation of this relation to higher temperatures demonstrates that attains 1 atm at 1350 K in the environment of the imposed oxygen pressure.
