Abstract

The beam-foil technique has been used to observe the spectrum of iodine in the wavelength region from 400-3000 AA. Lifetime measurements have been made for a total of twenty-nine levels in I V, VI and VII, with cascade corrections being applied to the resonance transitions in I VI and VII. The multiplet oscillator strengths of 1.29+or-0.07 for the 1S-1P transition in I VI and 0.82+or-0.05 for the 2S-2P transition in I VII show a close agreement with isoelectronic trends for the Cd I and Ag I isoelectronic sequences. In the I V spectrum new energy level assignments are suggested for the 5s26p 2P and 5s5p2 4P levels.
