Abstract
This monograph gives a concise exposition of the life of the South African frog and its care for laboratory use in the diagnosis of pregnancy. However, almost half of the volume is taken up with the historical account of the recognition of the importance of this frog in scientific studies and its geographic distribution as well as its life cycle and habits. This section should be of interest to zoologists and laboratory caretakers who require this information for the proper sustenance of normal frogs. The latter part of the volume is of value to clinicians because of the use of this type of frog for pregnancy diagnosis as well as for the pathology of pregnancy (hydatidiform mole, chorioepithelioma) and endocrinopathies.
