Abstract

Shorter times of innovation and rapidly changing limiting conditions required a fast and unerring process research. Therefore a systematic computer aided process synthesis seems to be necessary. The consequence of our work in comyputer aided process synthesis were the development of expert systems. The more complex a problem is, the greater the wish and the necessity to link the complete available knowledge to solve the problem. Based on our experience we drew the conclusion that the best solution of this problem is the cooperation of our expert systems. The realization of the project has shown, that expert systems can be developed rather independent. Also the total system can be extended flexibly. Altogether the flexibility and the efficiency of the proposed prototype seems to have such a great potential, that we are hopeful to advance to real production systems - possibly by the use of heterogene hardware (loosely coupled systems) and the integration of commercial shells and databases.
