Abstract
The development of an expert system for the diagnosis of NEC microwave radio equipment was accomplished in a relatively short time and without a great investment of manpower or dollars. Several benefits from this project are discussed, including having a useful diagnostic tool (the expert system) to assist repair personnel, having a useful training tool (again the expert system), and the development of a better set of maintenance procedures from the analysis that went into the development of the expert system. A background on the need for the expert system is given, and failure plans are outlined for the development of other expert diagnostic systems. >
