Abstract

ABSTRACTConsidering how, much is being said and done about training leaders of industry, very little is known about what constitutes the qualities of good leadership or management. However, a body of evidence is accumulating from social research which shows that, at least in basically democratic societies, better results are obtained by managers who concentrate on their subordinates, as well as on the work. It follows that, in modern conditions, the ‘soft’ approach yields better results than the big stick.
