Abstract
Executive leadership is a major component of quality improvement in corporations throughout the world. Unfortunately, there is no consistent agreement on the organizational impact of effective leadership. The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) criteria include leadership as the category that embodies all other MBNQA criteria. Within the framework of the MBNQA criteria, a structure is created to study leadership and its relationships with the other criteria.This research effort focuses on the information and analysis component of the criteria. In a study of members of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), factor analysis and regression models are used to explore the role of information and analysis and the other components of the award criteria. They are then compared with the leadership component to determine which are most highly related to executive leadership. The results show that the information and analysis component is vital to success in executive leadership.
