Abstract
Antonio Prete's most recent book, All'ombra dell'altra lingua. Per una poetica della traduzione, is neither a theoretical treatise on translation, nor an analysis or close reading of selected translations, but rather a succinct study, or long essay, on the literary history and practice of translation in Italy. The book most concerns the formative role that translation has played in poets' apprenticeships to their predecessors. The practice of translation, Prete asserts, leads poets into living between languages with the twin arts of poetry and translation.
