Abstract
A review is given of the sedimentation behaviour of concentrated colloidal suspensions with particular emphasis upon the role of interparticle forces and the relationship between structure and properties. Topics discussed in detail include the sedimentation of colloidally-stable suspensions of monodisperse particles, the sedimentation of reversibly-flocculated dispersions, and the consolidation of irreversibly-aggregated networks.
