The Security Survey: Creating A Proactive Foundation for Campus Crime Prevention

Abstract

Crime on American campuses is an issue of concern to students, parents, staff and community leaders. While various methods of crime prevention and security have been initiated by campus communities, both large and small, little attention has been placed on the importance of the security survey as a vehicle for developing proactive crime prevention strategies and allocation of university resources. This article reviews applicable literature and substantively defines the necessary components for a campus security survey and its proper implementation.
