Abstract

Even before the atomic bomb was released for military use the scientists, who created it, joined efforts to bring about a realization of its disruptive potential. Dr. Simpson, who worked at the Metallurgical Laboratory of the University of Chicago during the war, was associated with these efforts from the outset. He was the first chairman of the executive committee of the Atomic Scientists of Chicago and has continued as a member of its executive committee. He is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the Institute for Nuclear Studies at the University of Chicago.
