Abstract
This is a response to Nick Cheesman's article, Thin Rule of Law or Un-Rule of Law in Myanmar, which discusses “the authoritarian legality found in Myanmar.” Cheesman characterizes the practice in Myanmar as the “un-rule of law,” noting that the system “falls a long way short of a minimalist rule of law.” In this paper, the author interrogates this assumption.
