Abstract
We present a convergent frozen-correlation approximation (CFCA) toevaluate multiple-ionization cross sections in ion-atom collisions. Thetheory allows the evaluation of total cross sections for double ionizationwithout dynamic correlation. We have studied double ionization of He byimpact of high-energy protons and antiprotons. Our results for antiprotonimpact are in excellent agreement with experiment, thus proving thenegligible role of dynamic correlation. However, a discrepancy is obtainedfor proton impact, which suggests that dynamic correlation may play asignificant role in this case.
