Abstract

In this study, the Romanian Constitutional Court is given a new perspective, namely that of the instrument of civic education. Taken into consideration that, according to the charter and activity of the Constitutional Court of Romania - as institutionalized form of constitutional justice – it presents all theoretical and practical guarantees to be considered a legal means to protect human fundamental rights and freedoms, to be really effective and efficient and to be perceived as such by the “beneficiaries”, respectively the subjects (natural or legal entities). The following aspects are analyzed and presented: the importance of the concept of “human rights” as democratic value; constitutional justice as a means of protecting human rights; how the Constitutional Court of Romania promotes human fundamental rights and freedoms through its activity, thus contributing to the awareness of the individual/citizen that he/she has fundamental rights and freedoms and thus shaping and strengthens the democratic civic education.
