Abstract
No references are found in rhinoplastic literature to the importance of the suture line between the nasal process of the frontal bone and the cephalic borders of the nasal bone and of the frontal process of the maxilla. This natural-cleavage line automatically delimits all surgery on the upper part of the bony dorsum or bridge. This synarthrosis, or suture, is finely serrated. In older persons, the suture may be almost completely fused, but there always remains the external weak line which aids disarticulation. In the young adult, there is often a fine layer of periosteum separating the adjacent bones, making it still easier to disarticulate. Knowledge of this area has made it possible to develop an extremely simple technique which greatly facilitates surgery on the bony nasal dorsum. Anatomy A few pertinent facts will be sufficient.
