Abstract

The neutron and X-ray diffraction patterns of the disordered FeNi alloys before and after the martensite transformation are discussed. It is revealed that the orientation relations of f.c.c. (γ), b.c.c. (α) and h.c.p. (ϵ) phases at the martensite transformation appear to be the consequence of their symmetry relations. The symmetry relation of the phases realizes through the incommensurable superstructure which FeNi alloys possess in the invar region of composition. The crystal geometry of the martensite transformation in the ordered Fe3 + δPt1–δ alloys is assumed to be determined by the similar mechanism. From the results obtained follows the physical basis of FeNi and Fe3Pt alloy invar phenomenon. [Russian Text Ignored].
