Abstract

Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are caused by germline genetic variants in an ever expanding number of genes. Similarly, an increasing number of acquired genetic variants are associated with conditions characterised by immune dysregulation. Many of these are classified within the IEI classification system as ‘phenocopies of inborn errors of immunity’, although these conditions are neither inborn, nor do they always phenocopy a germline counterpart. This presentation will explore the concept of ‘acquired errors of immunity’ (AEI) citing key examples, discussing relevant clinical and diagnostic considerations, and exploring the emerging technologies used to identify and characterise them.
