Abstract
This paper analyzes the role of science cities in the development of the national innovation system based on a set of legislation documents that regulate the activities of science cities in Russia. It also presents the definition of science cities and outlines the history of their development. The major goals and functions of science cities are investigated. The structure of the scientific and production complex of science cities is analyzed.
