Abstract

Police as law enforcement officers have the duty and authority to investigate criminal acts according to the law of criminal procedure and legislation. The role of police investigators of Bengkulu Police Department in criminal investigation of signature forgery influenced the case settlement, therefore the police investigator charged to do the investigation in accordance to the regulations of the investigation. This study aimed to determine the role of police investigators of Bengkulu Police Department in the criminal investigation signatures forgery and the obstacles faced by the investigators. This study used empirical jurisdiction. The data used were primary and secondary data. The populations in this study arethe investigators/investigator’s assistants of Bengkulu Police Department and Dokupalfor Labforinvestigators from Palembang. Qualitative data analysis without the exclusion of non-statistical quantitative data analysis using the inductive-deductive framework and vice versa. The results showed that the role of police investigators of Bengkulu Police Department in criminal investigation of signature forgery has not been implemented to the maximum, so it does not match the expectations in the regulation of investigation. The obstacles faced by the investigators are the lack of understanding of Bengkulu Police investigators to the rules of the investigation, the majority of human resources came from general educational field, no vocational fields of forgery, inadequate infrastructure.
