Abstract
The opening up of the Soviet society at the end of the 80s and the abrupt reduction of science financing in the 90s have radically changed the picture of international interactions in Russian science. The changes brought a new phenomenon of emigration as well as the extraordinary growth of international communications and increase in joint activity. The empirical survey carried out in eminent research institutes of the Russian Academy of sciences in 1995–96 concentrated on those forms of international interactions which help academic scientists to continue their professional work in their own research establishments. The results have revealed not only the general significance of international support but also its non-trivial influence on national academic community.
