The purpose of the research is to examine the role of foreign trade in terms of ensuring national interests and security, and to determine new trends in this direction. The methodology of the research - analysis, comparison, and grouping methods were used during the research. The practical importance of the research - different and similar views on the terms of national interest and security were analyzed, and the opinions of foreign and domestic scientists were disclosed. The analysis of foreign trade was carried out in the aspect of protection of national interests and security of Azerbaijan. The results of the research - the fact that the role of foreign trade in terms of national interest and security is multifaceted and lack of a unified approach shows that there is a need for research in this area. Although no existing economic theory can fully capture this complex relationship, their synthesis provides a basis for developing adaptive trade strategies that prioritize economic development, national security, and international cooperation in a changing global landscape. The high specific weight of oil and oil products in exports in our country makes it necessary to implement a new approach in foreign trade relations. The originality and scientific novelty of the research - the theoretical approaches to the roles of foreign trade in ensuring national interest and security, as well as the schematic grouping of the roles of foreign trade in ensuring national interest and security, reflect the scientific novelty of the research.
