Abstract

The communication process is not limited to speaking or writing only. It is a complex process that requires influential factors such as language, grammar, and experience. It also includes elements of the non-verbal medium. Sign language and facial expressions can reveal what a person is trying to express through a face-to-face conversation. In the foundations of conversation, we find that the absence of a non-verbal medium causes a lack of understanding and confusion in interpersonal communication. This study focuses on the impact of emoji in electronic communication, especially the (Messenger and WhatsApp) program, where this study relied on the theory of media richness. The method used is the qualitative research method, and the results showed that emoji have an important role in electronic communication between people.
