Abstract

ABSTRACT New technologies have significantly impacted the music industry,leading to its digital transformation.This study explores the effects of digital technology trends on different aspects of the value chain in the music industry.Using qualitative content analysis and semi-structured expert interviews, streaming, artificial intelligence (AI), voice control, and blockchain are identified as technologies with widespread effects in this context. This paper provides insights on the impacts of digital technologies on value creation and capture mechanisms, and offers recommendations for companies to seize emerging opportunities. Indeed, insights from the music industry, can be applied to other more “traditional” industries as well.
