Abstract

The inestimable leap in industrialization and digitalization since past decades has urged organizations to opt for quick information management and decision-making systems as massive information inflow has been challenging organizations worldwide threatening their survival and sustainability. Business intelligence (BI) refers to the mindful application of advanced and smart digital technologies, such as data analysis, storage warehouses, business and information analytics and information conception, with the primary objective of identifying and scrutinizing business-relevant raw data to advanced corporate insights for strategic decision-making. BI and analytics are the most researched technologies for information/data storage and retrieval in the industry 4.0 era seeking to improve strategic decision-making. This chapter aims to introduce BI and the pivotal role it could play in the creation or management of sustainable organizations. The chapter further highlights how BI can be applied to non-technological areas of work, thus breaking the myth that BI is focused on information technology management and financial institutions’ data security and/or organizations that deals with highly volatile data. Through functional models, the chapter guides aspiring business leaders, management executives and business students likewise to the unexplored possibilities of BI applications in management.
