Abstract

Statutory acts introducing working time standards and the control of their observance were among the first pieces of labour legislation enacted in European countries. In recent years, changes in the organisation of work caused by new technologies have been increasingly pointed out in international, European and national contexts, resulting in a blurring of the boundaries between working time and rest time. The need for regulation in this area has been recognised in various European legislations. It is therefore worth considering whether, and if so, any of them may serve as a model for a future regulation of this issue under the Polish law. The first part of the article presents a few selected solutions adopted in European countries such as France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Italy.
