Abstract

The rhetorical critic can function as a catalyst of social change. The critic as a Tavistock consultant interprets the rhetoric of groups in the “here and now.” The rhetorical conflicts at the interface of several large groups can be reduced by the application of Tavistock principles to an intergroup consisting of delegates from the large groups. A new rhetoric replaces dysfunctional rhetoric when an intergroup understands itself in the context of large group, small group, and target group fantasy themes.
