Abstract
A return mapping method of integrating constitutive equations that has already been tested in various elastoplastic and viscoplastic material models is applied to certain friction problems. A two dimensional element is proposed for quasistatic computational friction analysis based on non-associative plasticity. The accuracy and stability of the return mapping algorithm were investigated for this type of element. The present friction formulation is introduced in a simple way and accounts for many types of friction laws.
