Abstract

LNG (liquefied natural gas) is low-temperature liquid at -162 degrees Celsius and is evaporated into BOG in LNG storage tanks. Coriolis mass flowmeters have been installed in LNG terminals of Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd., because it measures mass flow directly with high accuracy and superior maintainability in addition to having no moving parts. Also, in our LNG terminal, these flowmeters are adopted in order to measure the amounts of hot and high-pressure boil-off gas (which occurs in LNG storage tanks), in the process of mixing BOG (boil off gas) with LPG (liquefied propane gas) and adjusting the calorific value. The phenomenon fluctuating the discharge measurement of these meters occurred on account of the resonance of high-frequency sound, which is generated from the Venturi mixer for LPG evaporation. In this paper, the troubleshooting of Coriolis mass flowmeters in a pulsating flow is shown.
