Abstract
A computer program based on a procedure discussed by Powell has been developed for the resolution of overlapping peaks in data output from x-ray diffraction, ion-exchange chromatography with spectroscopic detection, and infrared spectroscopy. A polynomial background is also fitted to the data so that recourse to arbitrary graphical methods for separating peaks and background is no longer necessary.
