Abstract

The Philippines is one of the United States’ oldest allies in Asia-Pacific and the long-lasting defense relationship is at the heart of U.S. policy in the region. Under R. Duterte's presidency, the US-Philippines alliance underwent serious strength tests. The coming to power in the Philippines of the new President F. Marcos Jr. marked a new page in relations between the two countries. The article analyzes new bilateral initiatives in the field of military-technical cooperation, and first of all, the project to expand the American military presence in the Philippines, announced in early 2023.
