Abstract

The magmatic rocks: basalts or diabases are used as a source of natural material to create new materials and develop effective technologies to produce them. For example, basalts are used as raw materials to produce basalt fiber, stone casting products (paving stones, pipes, chutes, etc.), and glass-ceramic. Researches are currently under way in the field of basalt coatings. The article presents a research in the technology of producing glass-crystalline materials on the basis of the basalts of the Primorsky Krai (Shkotovsky and Shufanskoe Plateau.) Analysis has been performed on chemical and phase composition of basalts of various deposits of the Primorsky Krai. The data of microscopic and X-ray phase analysis performed before and after heat treatment have demonstrated the marked dependency of the crystallisation process on the composition of charge, the temperature of treatment as well as on the heat treatment applied to basalt samples. It has been found, in particular, that the examined basalts have an increased acidity coefficient, so, in order to produce a crystalline structure, the temperature of the heat treatment, that is crystallisation (annealing), must be no less than 950 °C. There has been studied as well the effect of various components such as such as calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide (MgO), and mineral dolomite (Ca,Mg[CO 3 ] 2 on the crystallisation of basalt. The minerals anorthite and augite acted as basic crystalline phases produced after the heat treatment of basalt compositions. The technique presented here will make it possible to obtain glass-crystalline materials on the basis of basalts of the Primorsky Krai.
