The musical schema was probably not part of Pound's intention when he began The Cantos.2 It is also questionable whether such a structure remains in effect for the Cantos composed after 1929.3 But at the very least Pound's thoughts about his poem in 1927 should hold true for the section published in 1928, A Draft of The Cantos, 17-27.
