Abstract

Measurement of aerated and tapped densities of a range of powders which were observed to be free-flowing or cohesive were compared with the Jenike material failure function obtained from shear tests. Correlations between the readily obtainable bulk densities with the rigorous experimental protocol of a Jenike shear test indicated that the flowability and flow behaviour of these powders could be related to either the Hausner ratio, Carr's flowability percentage or the rate of change of powder bulk density when tapped.
