Abstract
Objectives: The study aimed to explore the relationship between humble leadership and the level of self-management among department heads in Jordanian public universities from the perspective of faculty members. It focused on three dimensions: the domain of self-awareness, the domain of openness to learning, and the domain of appreciating the strengths of employees. Methodology: This study is classified as descriptive research, aiming to achieve accurate knowledge about events, phenomena, and observations by examining their variables, components, elements, and characteristics. Within the framework of descriptive studies, a quantitative survey-analytical approach was employed for its suitability to the study's nature, objectives, and research questions. The researcher designed a tool comprising 35 items distributed across three domains: the domain of self-awareness and its accurate perception, consisting of 12 items; the domain of openness to learning, consisting of 12 items; and the domain of appreciating employees' strengths, consisting of 11 items. The second part of the tool measured the level of self-management among department heads, comprising 14 items. A simple random sample of 412 faculty members from Jordanian universities was selected during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024. Results: The findings revealed that the mean scores for humble leadership and the level of self-management among department heads in Jordanian universities were high. The domain of appreciating employees' strengths ranked first, while the domain of openness to learning ranked last, though still at a high level. The results also indicated a positive correlation between humble leadership and the level of self-management among department heads in Jordanian public universities, particularly in the domains of increased openness to learning and adaptability. The study recommended the need to enhance self-management practices by providing all methods, techniques, and tools that can improve the self-management level among department heads in Jordanian universities.
