Abstract

The changes in cytokinin activity in the embryo and megagametophyte of Pinus nigra were observed during a 14-day germination period together with the effect of cytokinins on chlorophyll accumulation. Maximum cytokinin activity in both Amaranthus and chlorophyll retention bioassays is attained on the 7th day of germination in the light and in the dark, except for bound cytokinins of the megagametophyte of dark-grown seedlings. Quanlitative analysis of cytokins was performed by gas-liquid chromatography. Isopetenly adenine, isopentenyl adenosine and zeatin were found, while zeatin riboside was undetectable. The maximum cytokinin activity precedes the fast chlorophyll accumulation.
