Abstract
Observations on the trichomonad flagellates of rats (1929) have shown that although two species of these protozoa may, under certain conditions, occur together in the intestine of their host, they are affected very differently by changes in intestinal bacteria following changes in the animal's diet. It is also possible that other protozoa, which live in the lower intestine of rats and feed on the bacteria present, may vary in their reaction to changes in intestinal flora. In the present experiments the attempt has been made to determine the reactions of Endamoeba muris and Chilomastix bettencourti to changes in the diet and intestinal conditions of rats as compared to that of the trichomonads.
