Abstract

A correlation has been demonstrated between the ionization potentials of single-charged cations M + of a series of transition elements and the interaction of the corresponding double-charged cations M 2+ with serum, measured by the smallest amount of cation which will cause clear serum to become turbid. Additive and antagonistic effects have been demonstrated. The ionization potential of cations has been discussed in relation to their chemical and binding properties. The second ionization potential of the metal atom M is parallel to the field strength of M 2+.
