Abstract

A survey of counselor's perceptions of their use of medical information was administered to 52 Pennsylvania BVR counselors. Of the counselors surveyed 83% felt they should be allowed to describe the symptoms pre-sented in an initial interview. Seventy-four percent of the counselors felt that making referrals to private practitioners should also be considered a routine function. Sixty-six percent felt they should be allowed to make referrals to medical specialists. However; 89'% felt it would be inappropriate for them to make medical diagnoses. Several other findings regarding treatment and prognosis are also reported.
