Abstract

The Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories Protocol (RTM) has quickly become one of the most widely attested and well-supported NLP-Based interventions. It is the subject of three randomized controlled experiments with one in preparation. One QEEG study documenting the Neurology of PTSD and RTM's effects is in preparation. Two case studies have been published. RTM is currently the subject of RCT comparison studies in major research centers at King College, Northern Ireland UK, and The Uniformed Services University/Center for Neuroscience and Restorative Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD USA. In addition, it has been reported out as an emerging new treatment for PTSD in the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies' (ISTSS) new PTSD Prevention and Treatment Guidelines-Methodology and Recommendations. Moreover, in a recent systematic review and meta-analysis, RTM was found to be one of only two psychological treatments to adequately address the needs of active duty service members and veterans. This chapter reviews the development of the protocol and reviews the published studies including those in process and the implications of the two systematic reviews/meta-analyses; describes the ongoing research at Walter Reed and Kings College, reviews RTM's association with the reconsolidation mechanism, and offers suggestions for future research.
