Abstract
What is Known PCR based gastrointestinal pathogen testing is highly sensitive and specific. PCR based gastrointestinal pathogen testing may be clinically too sensitive.What is New The positive predictive value of the Biofire FilmArray™ pathogen panel for stool culture organisms was modest, ~60% in pediatric patients. None of the multi‐positive GI pathogen panels for stool culture organisms were confirmed by stool culture. Positive, especially multi‐positive Biofire FilmArray™ pathogen panels for stool culture organisms should be carefully considered in the clinical setting.
