Abstract
The limiting relationships between the carrying capacity of the ring of a strong-focusing proton synchrotron, the injection energy and permissible injection current are presented. In addition, the limitations to the peak current in a linear ion accelerator with strong magnetic focusing are determined. The feasibility of realizing the limiting injection currents in a proton synchrotron using a strong-focusing linear accelerator as the injector is discussed.
