Abstract

The reactions at room temperature of titanium(IV) chloride, bromide, and iodide with excess of several primary and secondary aliphatic amines have been studied. Each primary amine (NH 2R, R  Me, Et, Pr n and Bu n ) gives an aminobasic titanium(IV) halide, TiX 2(NHR) 2, xNH 2 R( X  Cl, Br, I). Titanium halogen bonds are also aminolysed by the secondary amines (NHR 2, R  Me, Et, Pr n ). Structures are proposed for the aminobasic products on the basis of thermal decomposition, molecular weight, and infra-red spectra studies.
