Abstract

A molecular reaction study of poly-4-vinylpyridine (PVP) with serum albumin below the isoelectric point of albumin in the reaction medium (pH=2·0–4·5) has shown that a soluble polyelectrolytic complex is produced as a result of mixing which is at an equilibrium with the original components. The effects of ionic strength, of the pH of the medium, the molecular weight of the polymer, and also of the original component concentration, on the polymer-albumin reaction has been investigated. The ratio by weight of components present in the complex has been determined.
