Abstract

Abstract In this paper, the Raman, infrared, and NMR spectra of R-Se-H, R-Se-R, and R-Se-Se-R(R=CH3, C2H5) are reported. It strongly supports a D3d or a non-rigid D3d, for R-Se-R and R-Se-Se-R that the rule of mutual exclusion holds between Raman and infrared frequencies except for the frequencies of CH3 groups and there appear only one signal of CH3 without splitting for CH3-Se-CH3 and CH3-Se-Se-CH3 and the quartet of CH2 and the triplet of CH3 with equal coupling constants for C2H5-Se-C2H5 and C2H5-Se-Se-C2H5. The vibrational and NMR spectra of R-Se-H are analysed on the basis of a C3v or a non-rigid C3v symmetry.
