Abstract

The Radiological Society of North America will hold its Sixtieth Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago, Ill., from Sunday, Dec. 1, to Friday, Dec. 6, 1974. As usual, the entire Palmer House has been reserved for the Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, with additional space reserved at the Conrad Hilton, Pick Congress and Midland Hotels. New housing reservations and enrollment procedures are announced in this issue. Richard G. Lester, M.D., General Chairman of the Program Committee, and Edward R. Epp, Ph.D., Program Co-Chairman for AAPM, have arranged for an excellent group of papers. The preliminary program will appear in the October issue of Radiology. The program of the Refresher Course Committee, Luther W. Brady, M.D., Chairman, is presented on the pages immediately following this editorial. The refresher course program is assuming increasing importance with more societies and licensing agencies requiring continuing education with validation. An innovation will be the “categorical course” on the gastrointestinal tract to be tried for the first time at this meeting. The course will include approximately 16 hours of instruction beginning on Sunday, Dec. 1, and ending Friday, Dec. 6. Sessions will be chronologically sequenced so that an individual who wishes to register for the course will be able to attend all of the sessions and thus obtain 16 hours of AM A approved Category I credit. Sidney Nelson, M.D. is responsible for this concept. Douglas W. MacEwan, M.D., Chairman of the Scientific Exhibits Committee, again will present an outstanding collection of scientific exhibits to be located on the seventh floor of the Palmer House. We again are happy to accept the cooperation of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine in developing and co-sponsoring our program in physics. Howard C. Burkhead, M.D. and his Technical Exhibits Committee have again arranged for an outstanding exhibition of radiological equipment and other products of value. Norman V. Avnet, M.D. who chairs the Audio-Visual Services Committee for the first time this year, and the Educational Materials Committee, under James J. Conway, M.D., promise even more effective presentation of our scientific endeavors. Under the leadership of their Chairman, Harold G. Jacobson, M.D., the Memorial Fund Trustees have selected as the New Horizons for Radiology Lecturer, William Edgar Thornton, M.D., NASA Astronaut, Houston, Texas. Milton Elkin, M.D. of New York will present the 1974 Annual Oration in memory of John S. Bouslog, M.D., President of the Radiological Society of North America in 1951. Dr. Bouslog received the Gold Medal of the Society in 1955. The Society this year will award Gold Medals to two of its distinguished members, Richard H. Marshak, M.D. of New York, N. Y., and Stanley M. Wyman, M.D. of Belmont, Mass. Lee B. Lusted, M.D., President of the Chicago Radiological Society, is actively participating in the planning of the meeting, and Mrs. Lusted is graciously acting as Chairman of the Ladies Activities Committee.
