Abstract

The racemization of the [Co(en) 3] 3+ ion in the presence of activated carbon was found to be retarded by H 2SO 4, to a slightly lesser extent by Li 2SO 4 or MgSO 4, and to a slight extent by Na 2SO 4. Salts containing the ClO 4 −, NO 3 − or NO 2 − ions accelerated the racemization. The racemization of the [Co(EDTA)] − ion in the presence of carbon was not greatly affected by added electrolytes. The racemization was slightly retarded by H 2SO 4, KNO 3, and NaClO 4 and slightly accelerated by alkali sulphates.
