Abstract

The Landau free energy expansion has been built for an isotropic degenerate narrow-gap semiconductor model with interband electron-phonon interaction both in weak and strong magnetic fields. The magnetic field effect on the structural phase transition temperature Tc has been discussed. The magnetic susceptibility change in weak field arising below Tc has been calculated. The kind of transition is shown to vary with field and Tc0 values (Tc0 = Tc at zero magnetic field). The results of calculations are compared with the experimental data on SnTe.
