Abstract
This review deals with results recorded up to and including 1962. Qualitative schemes of separation of noble metals and methods of subsequent identification are discussed. The latter include: field tests, crystal tests, colour tests in liquid media, spot tests and catalytic tests. An attempt is made throughout the review to identify promising areas of research.
