Abstract

On January 23, 1968, while the USS Pueblo was conducting intelligence off the coast of Wonsan, North Korea, this U.S. spy ship was seized and its crew interned. To prevent its recapture by the Americans, the North Koreans sailed the Pueblo up the North Korean coast. In 2013, in an article titled, “The Pueblo as a North Korean Monument,” Dr. Andrei Lankov, a graduate of Leningrad State University and Professor of History at Kookmin University in Seoul (who is considered a foremost authority on North Korea), wrote the following:
